Following an executive session on real estate, the Berkeley County Commission approved the purchase of 285 acres of the Oates property on the north side of Route 901 in the Spring Mills area for $2,915,000.

A commissioner moved that the commission authorize the purchase and give the president authority to sign the contract. "I would like to make a motion... to purchase 285 acres of the Oates property... at a purchase price of $2,915,000 and give the authorization of our president to sign that contract," the mover said. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

The purchase was presented without additional public detail in open session; commissioners indicated action would follow the executive session.
