He said a Thanksgiving meal for veterans and their families is scheduled for Nov. 25 from 5:00 p.m. to about 7:30 p.m., with serving beginning near 5:30 p.m., at the VFW in Ravenna. A Christmas event is planned for Dec. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m.; Woody said both events will include activities for children and community participation.
Woody reported donations of 13 turkeys and three hams so far and said the commission is working to place giving trees and coordinate wish-list cards for veterans’ children at several locations. He asked county staff to help share event details on county social media and the courthouse displays and provided the commission’s event page, portageohiovets.gov, as the source for updates.
He said the commission has reached out to congressional and state offices to invite participation and said he will return in January to brief the commissioners on annual numbers and future events. Commissioners thanked him for the work and noted opportunities to promote the events.
