The Naugatuck River Greenway committee voted to prepare support letters for a set of local grant applications, a step members said will help towns secure design and construction funding after a lost federal award.
Co-chair Jack Walsh asked for a motion to draft and provide the letters for the applications from Watertown, Seymour and Thomaston (Derby withdrew). "So I'd ask for a motion to provide the support letters as requested," he said. A motion was made by "Dragonas from Seymour" and seconded from Watertown. The committee recorded the vote with members saying "aye," and Rista Malanca recused herself because she sits on the review committee.
Aaron will assemble the draft letters and the co-chairs will sign and distribute them, staff said. The letters are intended to document regional endorsement and to strengthen local match packages for state and federal discretionary applications.
The committee emphasized speed and completion: staff should prepare the documents promptly so municipalities can include the endorsements when submitting applications and reimbursement requests.
