Sammamish commission outlines human services grant timeline and a year-long feasibility study for Building 120

City staff briefed the Sammamish Human Services Commission on the grant timeline and on facility planning that could affect nonprofit programming.
Staff said the human services grant application period will open in March, with subgroups of commissioners reviewing applications and the commission presenting recommendations to the council in October. "So what we will do is that we will go with the number that was given ... which is 683,000," staff said, describing the current target pool for the grant cycle.
Commissioners discussed onboarding and training for new commissioners, the subgroup review process and historical budgeting approaches. Staff emphasized that they will provide context and historical data for applications, and that subgroups will deep-dive to make funding recommendations.
Separately, commissioners reviewed the early stages of a year-long feasibility study for Building 120 (the former Central Washington University space). The study will include site and building analyses, geotechnical work and staged decision points for council; if the building is found feasible for community use, it could be considered for shared programs such as expanded senior services or a commercial kitchen.
No formal budget decisions or council actions were made during the meeting. Staff said commissioners can ask council for additional funding beyond the base recommendation when presenting their final allocation request in October.
