Planning Commission moves to begin new Master Plan update and elects interim secretary

The Lapeer City Planning Commission voted Nov. 13 to begin the process of drafting and adopting a new Master Plan, a procedural step staff said is required by state law and tied to a recently awarded MEDC grant. Planning staff said the city released a request for proposals to select a consultant and recommended pursuing a full new plan rather than incremental amendments to the 2008 plan.
A commissioner moved to "begin the process of drafting and adopting a new City of Lapeer master plan," the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Later in the meeting the commission elected Commissioner Pattison as planning commission secretary for the interim period until the January officer elections. That motion likewise passed by voice vote.
Staff noted the master plan procurement work (RFP and consultant selection) is underway and will return to the commission with further milestones; the vote authorizes staff to proceed with drafting and public-engagement steps required by state law.
