Charles County reports modest I‑Ready gains, expands tutoring and early childcare support

Nicole Kramer, vice chairperson of the Charles County Board of Education, summarized a fall I‑Ready and pre‑K update from district staff at the Nov. 4 meeting.
"I Ready numbers are continuing to inch up in most areas," Kramer said, summarizing the report attributed to Mr. Lowndes. Kramer said district staff emphasized a "growing need for targeted interventions such as in‑person tutoring," which Kramer said is being provided at more than 20 schools with support from state and/or federal funding.
Kramer also said the board learned that private early childcare slots are continuing to grow "due to the support that CCPS has been able to provide to our local private providers." She called the work "great work," noting ongoing attention to early childhood capacity.
The board did not vote on any changes; Kramer said the discussion focused on continuing interventions and monitoring progress, with staff expected to bring further data in future updates.
