Denton County Commissioners Court unanimously approves canvas of Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election

Denton County Commissioners Court on Nov. 14 unanimously approved the county canvas of the Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election and authorized county elections officials to forward the official results to the state for the state canvass next week.

The court's presiding officer moved to approve the canvas of the Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election (agenda item 2a), and Commissioner Mitchell seconded the motion. After a brief exchange about records and a precinct-based copy of results, the presiding officer called the vote and announced the motion carried unanimously.

Frank Phillips, an elections official for Denton County Elections, presented the precinct-based results to the court and said, "Once you approve these today, they'll become official, and we'll forward those official results to the state for them to canvass next week." The presiding officer thanked Phillips and the elections team for their training and work with poll workers, saying the county has received many positive comments about the conduct of the election.

Commissioner Mitchell added, "Frank, you have done a great job, and you are doing a great job," and another commissioner echoed appreciation for the elections staff and the county's new trainer. Phillips credited his team and singled out a new trainer, calling her "fantastic."

The court did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript; the presiding officer announced the motion carried unanimously. The clerk will forward the approved county canvass to the state as the next step in the certification process.

The meeting was brief, included no registered public comment, and adjourned after the canvass vote.
