The Ordinance Committee on Nov. 12 approved amended language designating four parking spaces adjacent to the police station as 15‑minute public parking. The order had initially been filed as “police business only” but councilors said that wording created confusion and could exclude members of the public who need quick in‑and‑out access.
Councilor Patty Devine said the spaces are intended for short visits such as delivering paperwork or quick business with the police station; Councilor Ocasio said 15 minutes should be sufficient for most uses. Councilors discussed whether to simply sign “15‑minute parking” or to add the word “public.” The committee settled on language directing city staff to prepare signage that communicates the short‑term public use and to draft an ordinance form for legal review.
The motion to approve the amended language passed by roll call vote.
Next steps: law department will finalize the ordinance language and DPW will coordinate the signage. Enforcement questions remain with the parking enforcement group and will be determined operationally.
