Senior Advisory Board considers March evening event with interactive game-show entertainment

A subcommittee of the Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board presented a plan at its recent meeting to hold an evening March event featuring interactive game-show–style entertainment and self-serve food stations.

The presenter outlined three game formats—survey-style “Family Feud,” a Wheel of Fortune–style activity and a Price Is Right segment—managed by an external vendor described in the presentation as a Farmers Branch company that would bring moderators and on-stage production. "They do all the setup and they do the management of the game," the presenter said, describing how teams would be formed and participants would be rotated onto the stage.

The event concept pairs games with multiple food stations (potato bar, build‑a‑burger and a dessert station) so attendees can eat and participate without leaving the main room. The presenter said the vendor would provide the games only; the board or a catering partner would supply food and staffing for food stations. Board members discussed limiting menu options—"don't give them five cheeses. Give them two"—to keep lines moving and reduce wait times.

Members flagged calendar availability: March 28 is unavailable, and the subcommittee recommended trying one spring and one fall event this year. Staff noted facility licensing and permit requirements; the building is licensed for BYOB but requires a formal request form and department sign-off before such events are approved.

Board members also discussed prizes and raffle baskets, staffing responsibilities for food stations, and event timing (suggested evening hours to retain attendance). The subcommittee recommended March weekend dates and will return with a budget, final vendor quote and an event timeline for board approval.

Next steps: the subcommittee will report back with pricing and a finalized date and will coordinate required department approvals and the BYOB request form.
