South Salt Lake Council adopts water-resource update and mobility plan amendments to General Plan 2040

On Nov. 12 the South Salt Lake City Council voted to amend the General Plan 2040 to include a water resource element update and the On the Move mobility plan update. The motion was made by Leanne and seconded by Charlotte; the presiding officer announced the motion passed after roll call.
Staff described the amendment as three coordinated changes: (1) incorporation of the mobility plan that had been intended for adoption in 2020 but not formally included; (2) a mobility plan update with recommendations and a new project map; and (3) an appendix compiling data sources such as Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) and Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) plans plus public outreach completed during the summer.
Jeff from Community Development told the council the water resource element update is required by SB 110 and laid out the four required sections: current supply and demand analysis, water conservation goals, future conservation methods, and partnership strategies with water agencies. He said Planning Commission reviewed the item and recommended approval, and staff made only minor edits since the prior presentation.
The council’s roll call produced affirmative votes and the presiding officer announced the resolution carried. Staff said the update is intended to guide future project mapping and conservation coordination; the council did not debate fees or impose any new charges in this action.
Next steps: The adopted appendices will be incorporated into the city’s General Plan materials. Staff invited questions and will continue coordination with regional agencies.
