The Pottsgrove High School marching band and director Ellie Zarephus were recognized by the Pottsgrove School District board after winning the Cavalcade Bands American Open Class championship; district leaders and Cavalcade Bands officials praised student dedication and community support.
The Pottsgrove School District board on the evening opened its meeting by recognizing the Pottsgrove High School marching band for winning the Cavalcade Bands American Open Class championship.
"Our band of just 47 students just won the Super Bowl," said Ellie Zarephus, director of bands, describing the students’ dedication and a season of intensive rehearsal. Zarephus told the board the ensemble swept all caption awards, including best color guard, percussion and overall effect, and credited staff and parent volunteers for supporting the program.
Justin McAdams, CEO of Cavalcade Bands, congratulated the school and thanked the district for supporting arts programs that allow that level of achievement. "It's an honor and a privilege to be here tonight to say congratulations," McAdams said.
Board members noted the district’s recent investments in instruments and programming, and a speaker from the audience described a plan to replace a portion of the instrument inventory each year so students can keep and use instruments through grade 12. The board thanked staff and volunteers and encouraged continued community support for music and extracurricular programming.
The recognition was part of a broader agenda that included student presentations and routine business; the board did not take separate action on the award beyond the public acknowledgement and congratulations.
