Carrie Farrell, program manager at Good Neighbor Alliance, outlined shelter operations and expanded services after a recent merger with Catholic Community Services.
Farrell said the organization operates a temporary shelter with about 15 to 17 residents at a time (8 beds for men and 4 rooms that can house women or families). An inReach outreach program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon to provide hot showers, laundry and resource sign-ups for unsheltered residents.
"We're currently, we have about 15 to 17 people, and that varies depending on the makeup," Farrell said, adding that Good Neighbor is housing roughly 18 individuals or families in its housing program and is taking referrals through inReach hours.
She described a February merger with Catholic Community Services that broadened services and noted Forgash House recently received four tiny homes (three two-bedroom and one one-bedroom) from a foundation for transitional housing for domestic-violence survivors for up to one year.
Farrell said the shelter needs monetary donations, Better Bucks vouchers, warm clothing and volunteers to prepare dinners (in a commercial kitchen or at the organization's kitchen). Contact information: Good Neighbor Alliance, 420 North 7th Street; phone (520) 439-0776.
Next steps: Good Neighbor Alliance continues outreach and is seeking donations and volunteer support; housing placements continue through the shelter's intake process.
