OT advisory committee approves temporary fix: law-and-rules course satisfies annual ethics CE

OTEC voted to temporarily accept the Louisiana law-and-rules course as meeting the annual ethics continuing-education requirement while staff pursues more permanent options and coordinates with CE Broker; Dr. Vann will bring a procedural change to the board in December for implementation.
The Occupational Therapy Advisory Committee voted Nov. 14 to temporarily allow the Louisiana law-and-rules course to satisfy the annual ethics continuing-education requirement for occupational therapists.
The motion, made by Chair Ingrid and seconded by Kim Solari, followed committee discussion that found few readily available, concise ethics courses from major providers. Members described difficulty locating acceptable one-credit ethics offerings from AOTA, NBCOT, or the state and reported technical problems submitting some courses through CE Broker during renewals.
Chair Ingrid put the motion to a roll-call/voice vote. Members who explicitly recorded "yes" during the roll call included Raylena Crooks, Mary (member), Jim, Kelly, Carolyn, Amy Larivier, Kathleen, and the chair; other present members either voted yes or were recorded as in agreement during the roll call. The motion passed. Dr. Vann said he will bring the procedural recognition to the board at its December meeting for operational implementation.
What happens next: the board will be asked in December to recognize the Louisiana law-and-rules course as meeting the ethics requirement until a standing ethics course option is adopted or a rule change is made.
