Chandler proclaims week of giving thanks and adopts dementia‑ and age‑friendly designation; city highlights workforce program award

The mayor read a proclamation designating the week of Nov. 28 as a "week of giving thanks" in Chandler and invited Cynthia Hardy of the Congregational Church of the Valley to comment. Hardy thanked the mayor and council and observed that her church is noted in the Library of Congress. “I wanna say thank you,” she told the council.
The council also recognized Chandler as a dementia‑ and age‑friendly community. City staff and community partners described the designation and noted that approximately 19% of Chandler residents are age 60 or older. Staff thanked the police department and community organizations for work on mental‑health response and outreach to older adults; the proclamation text stated the designation reflects the collective effort of city departments and community organizations and noted the designation date as November 2025.
Mayor Hartke also announced that the Chandler Career Center earned a 2025 Arizona Association for Economic Development Golden Prospector Award and summarized the center’s outcomes since launch: more than 950 job seekers connected, over 830 unique job postings, and partnerships with more than 63 Chandler‑based employers.
Council members and staff used the time to thank volunteers and to highlight upcoming events, including the Tumbleweed tree lighting and Parade of Lights on Dec. 6 and multiple community engagement opportunities.
The proclamations and award are ceremonial recognitions recorded in the meeting minutes; the dementia and age‑friendly designation was presented as a city designation in November 2025.
