The Anderson County Board of Education on Monday approved a resolution granting the city a right-of-way to build a sidewalk in front of Norris Middle School and passed a slate of finance and personnel measures including appropriations, transfers and remaining staff bonuses.
The chair introduced a resolution to convey up to 15 feet of property in front of Norris Middle School to the city for a sidewalk. Board member Speaker 5 moved to approve and Dr. Parrot (Speaker 3) seconded; the board approved the resolution by voice vote. "It's gonna be a win win for everybody," the chair said when describing the agreement, and the board acknowledged Rob Cummings for coordinating with city council on the project.
On finances, the board moved and seconded to approve appropriations labeled 1a through 1e as reviewed in the workshop. The board held a roll-call vote with the following recorded results: Miss Batey — Yes; Mister Bale — Aye; Mister Crandall — Yes; Mister Carden — Yes; Mister Gillenwaters — Aye; Mister Miller — Yes; Miss Williams — Aye. The motion carried.
The board also approved routine transfers 2a through 2g and advanced three policies for first reading. Chair remarks during the meeting noted that correcting disparities in staff bonus distribution will cost about $850,000: "This one's costing us $850,000 to make it right," the chair said, as the board approved remaining staff bonuses intended to include employees who had not received an earlier $2,000 payment.
Other procedural items approved included the Local Education Agency compliance report from the state, the 2026–27 employee calendar and the TISA accountability report outlining goals for the year. No members of the public were registered to speak during non-agenda comment and the board adjourned.
The board did not attach dollar-by-dollar appropriation breakdowns in the public discussion; the agenda referenced items 1a–1e and 2a–2g but did not specify line-item amounts in the meeting record.
