Council staff said they have applied for Kiwanis ($5,000) and Rotary ($5,000) grants to supplement fundraising; if those are approved, the council expects about $22,000 total, which would cover travel and programming expenses.
Staff also proposed inviting Holly Smith, president of the Florida League of Cities and a Sanibel council member, to brief the Youth Council before travel to explain the work of Florida and national municipal leagues and to prepare members for the conference. Logistics discussion included possible travel dates to fly the day before the conference and chaperone arrangements.
Next steps: Youth Council members who intend to go must complete required forms and confirm interest for registration and booking; staff will begin to secure travel arrangements when registration opens Nov. 21.
