The Cape Coral Youth Council reviewed and advanced several seasonal events and fundraisers on Nov. 14.
Member Sanchez reported that the City has waived some fees for planned movie-night events and that Feb. 13 is a potential date for a community movie night; logistics discussed include vendor booths, s'mores pits supervised by the Fire Department, and charging admission ($7–$10 suggested) to raise funds. The Council confirmed a Dec. 20 booth at an upcoming City event where members will promote the council and collect final toy donations; Member Sanchez will serve as the main contact for that booth.
On holiday service projects, members are participating in the mayor-led "10,000 for the troops" holiday-card campaign, with the City Manager's office coordinating county-wide collection through Dec. 6. The Youth Council set collection boxes at City Hall and the Youth Center for a toy drive that closes Dec. 20 and is working with Children's Network for gift distribution. Members discussed publicity (Instagram, Facebook) and agreed on follow-up outreach and staffing.
The Council also debated involvement in the Holiday Festival of Lights (Dec. 6). Options included sharing a Chamber of Commerce table, staffing volunteer opportunities, or running a Youth Council information booth; Member Johnson's father (Chamber chair) offered help lining up logistics. The group agreed to divide shifts and finalize planning quickly because the Dec. 6 event occurs before the Council's next meeting.
Separately, members reported on the Oct. 24 trunk-or-treat booth: the mummy-wrapping activity was popular and produced engagement though raised limited funds. The Council reaffirmed an Adopt-a-Road cleanup held Nov. 1 that collected roughly 10 bags of trash and scheduled the next cleanup for Jan. 10, 2026.
Next steps: Members will finalize the movie selection before the next meeting, start volunteer sign-ups for Dec. 20 and Dec. 6 events, and continue public outreach through social media.
