Member Johnson, lead on the senior project, presented a revised mental-health survey to the Youth Council and described changes made after meetings with school administrators and guidance counselors.
"Are you a student who feels they need mental health support at school?" Johnson said was added as an initial screening question to structure follow-ups and avoid skewing results. She said her team removed a question about 504/IEP classification and shortened the number of open-ended items to keep the survey to roughly five to ten minutes.
Johnson said the form will list all local high schools on one consolidated Google Form, and Oasis High principal Miss Corey and counselors reviewed and approved the survey language. Johnson proposed a December distribution window and recommended Dec. 1–22 for Oasis High to allow three weeks for responses; the council voted to approve that plan.
Member Salazar moved to send the approved survey to Cape Coral high schools and to deploy Oasis High's survey Dec. 1–22; Vice Chair Brown seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. After approval, Johnson said she will email principal Miss Corey with the dates, make a flyer and QR code, and share those materials with council members before distribution.
Council members discussed data analysis support and agreed to assist Johnson in compiling results for presentation at a joint meeting with City Council in March if possible.
Next steps: Member Johnson will coordinate distribution, prepare outreach materials and assemble the data for council review in January and for the joint March presentation.
