District presents fall FastBridge screening results; family liaison highlights rising need for supports

Allison Van Fleet, the district family liaison, told the board that the role has expanded beyond onboarding new families to broad K–12 family supports. "This is the data of our school as of last year and this year: we had 40.2% of our students qualifying as free or reduced, and 0.4% were identified as homeless. Currently, we have 52.4% of our students that are free or reduced, and 1.2% are homeless," Van Fleet said, reporting the district’s snapshot and listing community partners she engages to support families.
Director Lundgren presented the district’s fall FastBridge screening: 62% district reading proficiency, 62% math proficiency, and SABERS assessment completion at 86% with 78% proficiency in the fall window. Lundgren explained cohort trend charts that will be updated with winter and spring screening to measure growth.
Principals from several sites summarized school‑level goals and progress: early‑childhood TS Gold gains in literacy and motor domains, use of FastBridge for progress monitoring, SABERS risk‑tier targets, and work on trauma‑informed practices and structured literacy. District staff said they are implementing structured literacy in stages across grade levels, emphasizing phonics within a multimodal approach and using coaching and professional learning to build consistency.
Board members pressed staff on curriculum adoption and implementation timing; staff said the district does not have a newly adopted curriculum this year but is intentionally implementing structured‑literacy practices and using FastBridge as the core progress‑monitoring tool. The district said growth targets are benchmarked against national norms and that the FastBridge system will allow winter and spring comparisons.
What’s next: Winter screening will add growth data to the fall baseline; staff said they will return with updated trend information in subsequent reporting cycles. The family liaison said she will continue to coordinate referrals and resource collections.
