Homewood SD 153 recognizes students and staff with Tom Dockweiler and Warren awards

At its Nov. 10 meeting the Homewood SD 153 Board of Education paused business to present annual awards recognizing student leadership and staff excellence.
The Tom Dockweiler student award was given to one student at each building. James Hart principal Miss Johnson introduced Gavin Hall, citing leadership, social‑emotional growth and multi‑sport participation. Churchill principal Tara Peacock introduced Michael Williams and praised his academic and leadership growth. Willow principal Brian Jones presented Jade Taylor Lando, noting significant STAAR gains (presenter cited "over 50 points" growth in reading and math) and consistent classroom leadership.
The board also presented Jerry Warren (educational excellence) awards and accompanying board resolutions for staff across the district. Resolutions commending Tamika Bledsoe (support staff, Willow) and Denise (certified staff at Willow) were read and adopted unanimously. The board adopted a resolution recognizing Brian Hill and appointed him head custodian, effective immediately. Reading specialist Riley Patton and Kerry (Kerry/Karry) Sullivan were also recognized with resolutions noting lengthy service and contributions to student growth and school culture.
Board members thanked honorees and their families and noted the awards illustrate the district’s investment in people who serve students. The recognitions were followed by brief applause and photographs; the board then cleared the chamber to continue business.
