County seeks up to $940,000 in state local-share funds to repair courthouse elevators

"We're requesting $940,000," Jayla Cook, senior grant coordinator in the planning department, said, explaining the quote would cover repairs for two elevators and that "there's no match on this grant, so it could be potentially fully funded with this grant money." She described safety problems including elevators that stop and get stuck and said the grant's maximum is $1 million.
Staff noted the program is competitive and that award timing could be delayed by the state budget impasse; planning staff also said the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) reviews and makes selections for awards. Planning staff asked the board to sign a resolution so the county could submit the application and help secure political support and community buy-in.
The board raised safety concerns and supported moving the resolution onto the agenda for formal consideration and possible endorsement. Staff said notification of awards is likely not until next year; no award confirmation was available during the meeting.
The request will advance as a resolution to allow staff to submit the application and seek support from state representatives; no grant award decision was made at this meeting.
