Duarte Unified adopts resolution deeming volunteers employees for workers’ compensation purposes

Board member Reyes moved the resolution and Board member Haso seconded. Staff clarified that the resolution is not a statewide mandate but rather the district’s JPA insurance practice; the board approved the resolution 5-0 after brief Q&A.
Board members asked whether the action was required statewide; staff responded that the resolution is part of the JPA’s insurance practice and not necessarily implemented by every district across the state.
The board did not amend the resolution at the meeting and recorded unanimous approval.
