Abington School Board honors veterans and students, OKs leases, contracts and a five‑year facilities planning agreement

The Abington School District Board of School Directors met on Nov. 11, 2025, and recognized district veterans and student achievements before approving a series of personnel actions, permits, contracts and lease agreements, and authorizing a five-year facilities-planning effort.

Board President Doctor Mowery opened the meeting and said the session was being broadcast on the district YouTube channel and would be posted on the district website and cable channel by Nov. 14. Superintendent-level administration provided routine announcements, including athletics and arts achievements: "My name is Lana Brown, and I'm the student council president of Abington Senior High School," Lana Brown told the board, reporting that the boys' varsity soccer team advanced in the PIAA tournament and that the marching band earned Class 4A state recognition and a national bronze medal. Jessica Jaglau, speaking for Abington Middle School student council, described the middle school's Thanksgiving food drive and other student activities.

The board recognized district employees who are veterans and heard a performance from the Abington Senior High School Chorale under Lori Wolf. Public commenters praised the veterans recognition, student accomplishments and the district's food-drive efforts.

On business items, the board approved by motion and roll call the minutes of the Oct. 14 and Oct. 28, 2025 meetings and passed routine personnel changes listed in personnel addenda 7.1, 7.1a and the confidential addendum 7.1b. The board approved permit requests for use of district buildings and grounds (addendum 8.1) and awards of contract in addendum 9.1, which included a contract for panel reinstallation at Abington Senior High School (staff said an insurance claim has been filed and the district expects reimbursement) and a consortium award for bulk rock salt.

The board authorized an agreement with Rooted Tree Productions Inc. to use district space for its summer theater program (June 22–July 10) with a base rental fee of $5,700 intended to cover district facilities costs. It also authorized a settlement stipulation related to an assessment appeal for tax parcel 30-00-6644-00-7, noting the matter had been discussed in executive session on Aug. 26 and that confidentiality considerations apply.

Two lease-related items were approved: a five-year renewal (Dec. 1, 2025–Dec. 1, 2030) of the district's rental of the Pump Station property at 1220 Huntington Road from Abington Township for $1 per year (used as employee and bus driver parking); and authorization for the administration and solicitor to finalize an amendment extending the township's lease of Ardsley School through June 30, 2026, which the board supported to avoid disruption of childcare and community programs that operate at that site.

The board also authorized a professional services agreement with ICS Consulting LLC that includes work order 1 to develop a five-year capital plan and work order 2 for on-call professional services. Dr. Fetcher told the board the work will update prior assessments (a 2021 facilities condition assessment, a 2023 feasibility study, and a 2024 investment-grade audit) and produce actionable timelines and a two-year financial plan to feed the district's budgeting process; staff said the final plan is expected after March 2026 and that incremental updates will be provided to the board as the work proceeds.

All listed motions during the meeting were approved by the board; no dissenting votes were recorded. The meeting concluded with brief closing remarks and adjournment.
