Greta Schumacher, a parent who lives in The Landings, told the Bellbrook‑Sugarcreek Local Board of Education on Nov. 13 that she appreciated recent communication from the board and district about parental‑rights and an opt‑in approach to some school library materials.
"I appreciate that you made the list public," Schumacher said, urging that parents be able to review books that require opt‑in permission. She told the board that clear communication and private follow‑up conversations had helped produce what she described as a workable compromise on the district’s parental‑rights policy.
Schumacher also raised two safety concerns on behalf of parents: she said there are only two flashing school‑zone lights along a long stretch of Upper Bellbrook Road, and drivers can miss them; she asked the board to pursue additional, more visible flashing lights. She also asked whether the district could improve lighting at the Bell Montessori (BMS) side drop‑off to make early‑morning arrivals safer.
The presiding officer said the county typically controls flashing school‑zone signals but that the district could send a note to the county; the board did not vote on any safety measures at the meeting.
Schumacher concluded by thanking the board for continuing to engage with parents.
