Board asks VAC to explain veteran services after calls and lawsuit cause public confusion

Board member Paul Arena told the Nov. 13 Winnebago County Board meeting that he has received multiple calls from constituents with concerns about veteran services and confusion about funding and responsibilities. "Due to all these press that was out there over the last year with a lawsuit against us, about confusion on the, funding and, and other matters," Arena said, arguing the public needs clarity on what the county board does and what falls outside its authority.
Arena asked that the VAC be invited to a future board meeting to take questions and help clarify roles and responsibilities for veterans' services. The chairman agreed the board would follow up to arrange the VAC's appearance. No formal vote or directive beyond the invitation request was recorded.
