University of Minnesota Extension reports 4‑H growth in Winona County; Fall Harvest set for Sept. 28

Lisa Dirks, regional director for the University of Minnesota Extension, and 4‑H presenter Micah updated the board on staffing, partnerships and program growth. Dirks noted staff changes and thanked new and interim staff; Micah highlighted program metrics and outreach.
"Currently, we have 631 youth enrolled. We have 129 adult volunteers," Micah told the board, and described 15 community clubs and six partner organizations that expand 4‑H reach across the county. He noted new partnerships with the Impact Center and Kids First and highlighted successful summer programs including regional camp at Whitewater State Park and cooking, gardening and STEM sessions.
Micah said about 299 youth participated in the county fair and that 63 livestock exhibitors and 21 general exhibitors advanced to the Minnesota State Fair. The Extension said these activities were supported in part by grants from the Winona Community Foundation and a local BK5K grant that funded five outdoor griddles for cooking programs.
Extension invited the board and public to the 15th annual Winona County Fall Harvest on Sunday, Sept. 28 (11 a.m.–2 p.m.) at the 4‑H Building on the fairgrounds.
What's next: Extension staff offered to answer follow‑up questions via email and encouraged board members to attend the Fall Harvest.
