Commissioner Elsing led the discussion, asking whether alternative vendors provide the service locally and whether the county could competitively bid or provide the work in-house. "There's some pretty a lot of money we spent here," one commissioner said, noting the amount was "over $3,000 per client." Staff said the current funding comes from levy dollars and that the contract would not be applicable until January 2026, giving the board time to seek additional information.
Commissioner Elsing moved to table the item; Commissioner Vaguely seconded. The motion to table passed on a voice vote. The board directed staff to report back with trend data on vendor rates, options for competitive procurement or bid contracts, and a clearer cost-history for the program so the board can determine whether to proceed, restructure or competitively bid the services.
