Lufkin City Council canvasses Ward 3 special election, names Kimberly Abel the winner

The canvass was presented during a special meeting noted as necessary to meet state requirements to complete the canvass no later than Nov. 17.
A councilmember moved to approve the resolution and a second was given; the presiding official called for the vote and, after a voice "aye," stated that the motion carried. The record does not include a roll-call vote or individual recorded votes.
The council made the canvass its first agenda item and then proceeded to two budget amendments on second reading before adjourning.
Next steps: the presiding official said the newly elected councilmember would be sworn in at the next regular council meeting. The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
