Board recognizes band, cross‑country and robotics achievements

The Buchanan County School Board devoted significant time to recognizing student accomplishments across multiple programs.
A staff member told the board that the school band earned superior ratings at every festival this year — the first such streak in 16–17 years — and called students forward by school to receive certificates of recognition. The board and staff thanked parents and volunteers for supporting long rehearsals and fundraising.
Cross country athletes were also honored: Ella Rasnick earned an All‑State fifth place finish in her championship race, and the board recognized regional placers and team finishes (girls placed second in Region 1D; boys placed third). The board singled out Houston Hartford for a first‑place Region 1D finish and noted a fourth‑place state finish while running injured.
The district's CTE robotics/drone team was celebrated after winning first place at the Robot Drone League Virginia Regional at UVA Wise; team members named in the meeting included Teddy Smith, Nicholas Harris, Connor Meadows and Aiden Fields.
Board members said they appreciate the community support and volunteers that make extracurricular success possible.
