San Juan EDC approves $1,500 sponsorship for Yaki Animal Rescue gala

The San Juan Economic Development Corporation voted Nov. 4 to sponsor Yaki Animal Rescue's annual fundraising gala at $1,500 after hearing testimony about the rescue's regional services and clinic work.
Rebecca Chavez, chief operations officer for Yaki Animal Rescue, told the board the organization operates an approximately 80-acre ranch and cares for about 250 animals. "We have approximately 250 animals," Chavez said, and described spay-and-neuter efforts that have altered nearly 500 animals this year across the Rio Grande Valley. Chavez said the gala proceeds will replenish funds used for clinics and community services and asked the EDC to be a sponsor at the $1,500 level; the EDC had previously provided a $500 sponsorship when the request arrived late last year.
A board member moved to sponsor the gala at $1,500, a second was recorded, and the board approved the sponsorship by voice vote. Chavez said sponsor benefits include a table of eight, social-media promotion and event recognition. Staff said they would email event information to the EDC and follow up on payment processing.
What happens next: Staff will coordinate payment and promotion with Yaki Animal Rescue and confirm placement of the EDC logo in event materials.
