Murray resident urges district to find lower-cost field space for youth football
Summary
Beau Peeley, speaking for Murray youth football, asked the board to help secure affordable field access so youth teams need not pass high rental costs to families, and offered to work with the district on solutions including use of existing high-school fields or south end zone space.
At the board’s public-comment period, Beau Peeley identified himself as "the voice of Murray football" and urged the district to find lower-cost field space for youth football games and events.
Peeley said the youth league had to rent a rugby field at significant cost this season and that higher facility costs are passed to families. He asked the board to meet with league representatives to explore using high-school fields, a south-end zone, or other district facilities to reduce expenses and strengthen the pipeline to high-school athletics. “We do believe that, it would strengthen the pipeline of our high school sports,” Peeley said.
Peeley cited community engagement and academic benefits of youth sports — noting 28 Murray football players made the academic honor roll — and offered the youth league’s assistance in coordinating field use and addressing operational concerns.
Board chair thanked Peeley and asked attendees who came with him to raise their hands. Director Dean and other staff later discussed facility-sharing arrangements with city partners as part of ongoing interlocal-agreement updates.
Next steps: Board and staff indicated willingness to follow up; district staff invited league representatives to continue the conversation after the meeting.
