Board hears four policies on second reading covering outside employment, facility use and acceptable-use rules

Policy 72-50 was described as guidance for employees who work with students while also holding outside jobs or contracts; the revised approach requires that when an employee signs a contract with another entity that works with students, that contract must include provisions acknowledging the employee's district role and clarifying separation between district duties and outside work. Ida said the district removed a requirement for annual acknowledgement for all employees and instead retained the contract-specific requirement for cases where an employee contracts with another company serving students.
Policy 22-40, the facilities-use rules, adds definitions for commercial, nonprofit and municipal users and clarifies that PTA/PTO use of facilities for events that primarily benefit students will not be charged, while nonstudent events will be charged nonprofit rates. Staff said they worked with executive and site directors to reflect rental situations encountered in recent years.
Policies 83-10 (staff acceptable-use policy) and 83-20 (student acceptable-use policy) were revised to consolidate multiple iterations into one staff policy and one student policy, and to update language addressing modern technology and appropriate/inappropriate uses. Ida said staff collaborated with the technology department (including Nick Harris) and legal counsel to ensure the changes reflect current practice.
Ida told the board there was no public feedback on these items while staff made internal adjustments based on director input; trustees asked clarifying questions about contract provisions and which employees would be required to include contractual acknowledgements. No vote was recorded during the discussion; staff said they plan training and further conversation on implementation.
The policies were presented for second reading; the board did not adopt any policy during this meeting.
