The Ypsilanti Historic District Commission on Nov. 11 issued several Certificates of Appropriateness and set conditions for multiple exterior repairs and rebuilds across the historic district.
In unanimous action early in the business portion, the commission approved the application for 216 Maple Street (PHDC 25-0088). Carrie, historic preservation staff, said the amended application — partial wood-siding replacement, porch-column replacement, new guardrails, a rear deck and limited window work — “substantially meets” the Secretary of the Interior’s standards cited in staff review. The motion to issue a certificate was moved and seconded and the chair recorded the motion as carried.
At 103 North Adams (PHDC 25-0089), commissioners pressed for more precise porch and stair details. The commission approved porch repairs and a rebuilt brick pier using existing brick, subject to caveats: stair treads must be square-edged (a 5/4 product consistent with the city fact sheet), and any reused brick for the pier must remain unpainted unless the applicant supplies a paint product and receives staff administrative approval.
