Lapeer County commissioners approved an IT maintenance renewal and agreed to revised personnel procedures intended to clarify hiring and transfer compensation calculations.
The county’s Barracuda backup appliance license renewal was presented as an annual contract that backs up servers and uploads encrypted copies off‑site. The administrator said the vendor reduced the renewal price by roughly $1,000 from last year’s about $17,500 to approximately $16,524, and commissioners approved the renewal.
Commissioners also adopted a new compensation transfer policy to standardize how pay and step movement are handled when employees transfer between positions, including guidance for hiring at a higher step when justified. Administrator Sanzo said the policy includes a fast‑track option for highly qualified candidates but requires the administrator to notify three personnel‑committee members and obtain a majority of those members’ agreement.
A proposed separation policy (steps for voluntary or involuntary termination, compensation calculation and a sunset clause affecting retirement‑adjacent employees) was referred to the full board because changes had been received that day and commissioners wanted fuller consideration.
The measures passed aim to make HR processes more consistent while retaining oversight through personnel‑committee checks.
