"This is an existing drop box that we've had for many, many years...there had not been a policy in place and so there's a great need for policy," the treasurer said.
Residents raised concerns at public comment about installing an additional dropbox at City Hall and the potential for cash or vandalism; the treasurer and councilmembers said the policy and website instructions seek to reduce confusion and minimize cash handling. The treasurer said signage and online notices will emphasize "no cash." Council members asked about protections for residents who prefer to pay in cash; the treasurer said dual control and posting procedures are intended to prevent false‑short claims and to create an auditable process.
The council approved the motion to receive and file the policy by voice vote; no change to existing dropbox locations was authorized at the meeting.
