The Freeport Board of Adjustments voted unanimously to give the owner of 22221 Yellowstone 30 days to obtain permits or make demonstrable progress before the city proceeds with demolition.
Counsel / Building Official (Speaker 5) told the board the property (Property ID 262237) has been on the city's demolition list for an extended period and that staff had attempted to work with the owner, who initially trimmed shrubs but then lost communication. "This property has been on the City Of Freeport's demolition list for a long amount of time," Speaker 5 said, and recommended giving the owner 30 days to pull permits and 60โ90 days to demolish if necessary.
After closing the public hearing, the board voted to give the owner 30 days before staff moves forward with the city's enforcement option. The board recorded the vote as unanimous.
Staff said the next step will be for city staff to contact the owner immediately and schedule follow-up to confirm whether permits are pulled or demolition begins.
