Public works asks to place parts and skid-steer replacement on agenda; insurance payout noted

On replacement skid steers, Cole presented three quotes for 75-horsepower machines to replace a John Deere skid steer stolen earlier this year. He reported an insurance payout of $41,832.65 and said the additional cost to purchase a new replacement would be about $25,857.57. Staff discussed the trade-offs between tracked and wheeled machines and said they prefer a wheeled machine for the county's needs; warranty coverage and the availability of service tools for repairs were also noted in the discussion.
Staff also flagged a roughly $10,000 pending repair bill for a water truck taken to Grand Junction; department staff said they are negotiating the bill with the service vendor. Commissioners did not take an immediate procurement vote at the workshop; staff will present formal purchase requests at a future meeting.
