The board heard an update on the superintendent search process from HYA consultants, who summarized outreach and next steps. HYA reported 23 focus‑group sessions and forums attended by 263 in‑person participants during the consultant team’s recent visit; ParentSquare survey extracts showed thousands of responses in the consultant slide set (a snapshot cited roughly 2,859 responses) with parents/guardians the largest responding group.
HYA staff said they had recorded 10 initiated candidate applications in the district’s application platform to date and that broader application activity typically follows publication of the board’s leadership profile. The consultants reminded the community that the survey remains open through Friday, Nov. 14 at 4:00 p.m. and outlined the recruitment timetable: leadership‑profile presentation to the board on Nov. 21; application deadline Jan. 2; screening and interview workshop Jan. 13; first‑round semifinalist interviews Jan. 24, with subsequent rounds to be scheduled.
Consultants explained the rationale for limiting board or administrative attendance at some focus‑group sessions: to encourage candid feedback from staff or community members who might be reluctant to speak frankly about governance issues in the presence of current board members or supervisors. Board members and consultants answered procedural questions from the public and reiterated how stakeholders may view recorded forum videos and webinar replays (materials posted on district web pages and YouTube channels).
Public commenters earlier in the meeting raised concerns about consultant facilitation at a previous forum; the consultants and several board members responded with a description of safeguards to preserve candid input. The board set a special planning session for Nov. 21 to receive the leadership profile and confirmed the board’s timetable for screening and interviews in January.
