Chandler Unified recommends I‑Ready for K–5 math; materials set for 60‑day public review

The Chandler Unified School District presented a recommended K–5 math adoption to the governing board on Nov. 12, asking the board to place I‑Ready by Curriculum Associates on a 60‑day public display. District staff said a multi‑phase review that began with a July 31 request for information narrowed 11 submitted resources to two finalists and involved teachers, instructional coaches and parent representatives at multiple evaluation sites.
Eric Bridal, a district math coach, said the review used a rubric focused on alignment to Arizona standards, coherence with district practices, instructional supports, assessment and student supports. He said the district’s reviewers—about 135 participants across phases including 30 teacher representatives—scored I‑Ready highest on both mean and median measures and highlighted the program’s assessment, targeted instruction and progress tracking.
Assistant director Patty Fernandez and other staff emphasized practical classroom features: diagnostic assessments, unit‑level progression tools, family‑facing video supports and teacher dashboards intended to support differentiated instruction. Staff said the product offers both print and digital components and an on‑demand professional‑learning component for teachers.
On costs and timeline, staff said negotiations are ongoing but provided a staff estimate for a six‑year adoption of $4,044,226.17 (annual average $674,037.70) and said a six‑year upfront purchase would yield projected savings versus annual contracts. In a later information slide staff also cited a larger aggregate savings figure for the multi‑year purchase ($11,835,923.65) in the presentation materials; district staff noted the 60‑day review offers an opportunity for public comment and for the business office to complete contract negotiations and finalize exact fiscal terms.
The public review period will open Nov. 13 with physical materials available at the Instructional Resource Center and digital access on the district website; staff said the adoption would be brought back to the board with public input in early February (the record includes a Feb. 11 return date referenced by presenters and a Feb. 1, 2026 reference in staff materials). If the board approves the adoption after the 60‑day period, staff said professional development and technology management for launch would follow during the spring/summer implementation window so teachers are prepared for the 2026–27 school year.
Board members asked about supports for accelerated/CTA students, the program’s approach to automaticity and drill, intervention pathways, diagnostic reliability and teacher professional development. District and vendor presenters said CTA and accelerated learners receive appropriately coded licenses and that I‑Ready includes scaffolds, extension pathways and optional supplementary materials for automaticity; they also emphasized teacher monitoring tools and the ability to reset diagnostics when results appear skewed by testing conditions.
Staff framed the recommendation as a tier‑1 resource within a Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and noted the district will continue to make tier‑2 and tier‑3 supports available where needed. The board did not take a final adoption vote on Nov. 12; the decision at the end of the public review will be scheduled for a future board meeting.
