Veterans Day Run draws 377; parks operations report vandalism and staffing updates

Recreation and operations staff gave updates on programs, events and maintenance at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting on Nov. 13.
Trevor (recreation) reported the Veterans Day Honor Run (10K, 5K and fun run) had 377 registered participants, down from about 417 last year, and thanked platinum sponsors Carol Butera Sales Texas and Texas Health Presbyterian Prosper as well as volunteers including ROTC and the National Charity League. He said net proceeds are expected to support a Veterans Memorial at Frontier Park and that staff will continue the annual event.
On operations, Matt Furr described seasonal maintenance (rye overseeding, verticutting) and noted recent vandalism and damage to fields and benches: artificial turf and court plastics experienced burnouts and damage; some benches were removed after a staff member reported a laceration hazard and staff plan to repair or replace components next spring. Matt also described recurring irrigation leaks at Frontier Park and said in-house crews are doing more work while contractors face delays.
Staff announced a new recreation staff member will start Dec. 1 and said spring program planning is underway.
