The superintendent explained that the district’s recent move to full funding closes a long-standing shortfall, but noted there are constraints in the funding mechanism that require vigilance. The meeting transcript cited an illustrative cap figure of $30,000,000 and noted that, for example, if $10,000,000 in salary is subject to a 3% contract increase, the capped amount could be quickly approached; the superintendent said the district will advocate with legislators to address those structural funding risks.

Later in the meeting a board member raised safety concerns about the South Street school exit, recounting a near-miss involving a large 40-passenger bus that nearly rolled when leaving the site and describing uneven driveway/curb conditions that could damage vehicles. The board member asked staff to inspect the exit, consider repairs and follow up. The same speaker also requested that "no dogs" signs be posted at elementary playgrounds to protect young children from animal presence.

What happens next: the superintendent said the district will mobilize advocacy with legislators over funding concerns; district staff were asked to inspect South Street and report back to the board on necessary repairs and signage.
