Board approves supplemental pay schedules; recusals recorded and separate votes taken

The Madison County School Board voted Nov. 17 to adopt supplemental salary schedules for Madison County Central School and Madison County High School while documenting recusals and separate votes for conflicted members.

Because the chair disclosed a conflict of interest related to Matt Thompson, the board moved to approve the Central School supplemental schedule excluding Mr. Thompson and later voted separately to approve Mr. Thompson’s supplemental pay with the chair recused. That separate approval passed 4-0. A similar process occurred for Madison County High School: trustees approved the schedule excluding Jeremy Carroll, then voted to approve Mr. Carroll’s supplemental pay in a subsequent separate motion; that vote passed with the required recusals.

Trustees emphasized the need to handle conflict disclosures carefully and to separate votes when trustees have personal connections to individuals on payroll actions.

Next steps: Payroll and human-resources staff will implement the approved supplemental schedules and reflect the separate approvals and recusals in the official minutes and personnel records.
