The Springfield City finance subcommittee met in the afternoon and reviewed a package of grants, transportation allocations, bond reauthorization and school department contracts, recommending most items be sent to the full City Council for consideration.
Patrick Burns, the city comptroller, opened the fiscal review. "General fund revenue for the first three months of the fiscal year totaled $270,200,000, or 27% of budget," he said, adding that general fund expenditures totaled $358,500,000, or 35% of budget, as the city makes its large pension payment each July. Burns said revenue is roughly on par with last year and slightly ahead of the 25% benchmark for elapsed time in the fiscal year.
