Berkley council swears in mayor, honors election inspectors and outgoing member Vilani

Bridgette Dean was sworn in as mayor of the City of Berkley on Nov. 17, 2025, and the council administered oaths to newly seated council members as part of a brief swearing-in ceremony.
The council approved a proclamation recognizing the work of Berkley election inspectors, noting their training and long hours during recent elections. Council member Steve Baker read the proclamation, which was signed by Mayor Dean and highlighted inspectors’ role in ensuring accurate ballot processing.
Council member Jessica Vilani, who announced she will not seek reelection, received a council proclamation honoring her four years of service, including work on the city’s strategic plan and committee liaisons. In brief remarks Vilani thanked constituents and staff, recalled the 2,305 votes that elected her in 2021, and said she is stepping away to focus on family.
The council also received a $1,400 donation from the American Legion to buy a 20-by-30-foot flag for display by the city’s ladder truck; the donation was presented to the public safety department during the meeting.
The meeting included informal recognition and congratulations among members before moving on to the evening’s regular business. No policy actions were taken as part of the proclamations and presentations.
