Weston board elects Deborah Lowe chair and sets monthly facilities work sessions

Deborah Lowe was elected chair of the Weston Board of Education during the Nov. 17 virtual meeting after a nomination and roll‑call vote. The board also elected David Felton vice chair and Sharon Ferraro secretary.
Lowe, who thanked members for supporting the new officers, made facilities the central priority for the coming year. "We need to bring forward all the school facilities issues that have been identified in reports and board of ed work, beginning in 2017 and going as late as, last June," she said, urging the board to calendar an extra monthly meeting from December through June "and the items on the agenda will only relate to the facilities issues." Lowe said the board will coordinate with the selectmen and board of finance, work with the EOC committee on background legwork and aim to have planning steps in place for any state applications by next June and an eventual voter measure the following November.
Board members supported the approach during discussion, noting the complexity of facilities planning and the value of testing options under high, medium and low enrollment scenarios. The chair asked staff to circulate committee assignments and confirmed additional facilities meetings will be scheduled; dates will be coordinated with board and district staff.
