The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners reelected Commissioner Fowler as chair and selected Commissioner Lee as vice chair during the board’s organizational portion of the meeting.
The clerk opened nominations; Commissioner Fowler was nominated, the floor was closed and the roll call recorded unanimous support for Fowler to serve another year as chair. Commissioner Lee was nominated and confirmed as vice chair by roll call shortly afterward.
After leadership nominations, the board recessed briefly into named special districts (Environmental Control, Erosion, Mosquito Control and Sustainability) to elect chairs and vice chairs for those entities; each district’s nominations were handled and closed with roll calls.
Back in regular session, the commission reviewed and ratified its committee preference sheet and approved several commissioner appointments (including a change placing Commissioner Townsend on the Public Safety Council). The board approved updated appointment lists for Commissioners Claspy, Lee, Lowery, Fowler and Townsend by motion and voice vote.
Staff reported three vacancies on the Contractor Licensing Board; two applications had been received and one applicant was deemed eligible to serve as the consumer representative. Adam Sampson was reaffirmed for the plumbing contractor seat; the board approved the recommendation and left one vacancy open for future recruitment.
On advisory boards and commissions:
• Early Learning Coalition — Five applicants were reviewed and Tony Loop, CEO of the Early Learning Coalition, recommended reappointing Luton Allen to the at‑large seat. The board approved the reappointment by motion.
• Historical Commission — Staff reported five applicants (four eligible). Commissioners cast ballots: Glasby and Leete voted for Tammy Koschecki; Lowery voted for Alexis Nielsen; Fowler voted for Tammy; Townsend voted for Cody Brown. The tally produced three votes for Tammy Koschecki and the board approved her appointment.
• Homeless Advisory Committee — Staff recommended candidates to fill three at‑large vacancies (lived experience, faith‑based and law‑enforcement seats). The Sheriff’s Department recommended a law‑enforcement representative (named in the record as Michael Swanczak/Swancheck); the board approved the recommended law‑enforcement nominee and the other at‑large appointments as moved.
• Library Advisory Board — Amanda Botha reached term expiration; nine applicants were reviewed and staff recommended Jewel (listed elsewhere as "Joel") Player. A motion to appoint the candidate (recorded as "Joel Player") carried unanimously.
All motions to approve the slate of committee and advisory appointments carried. With business complete, the board adjourned.
