Brandon Lane of the Linebarger firm briefed Greenville ISD trustees on delinquent‑tax activity and collection outcomes. Lane said $1,461,000 in new delinquent taxes was referred to the firm this year, up from $1,200,000 in 2023, and that Linebarger collected $1,577,000 on the district's behalf since taking the contract.
Lane described the firm's process: letters and phone calls on smaller accounts, filing suits on larger business or real‑property accounts (after statutory windows expire), and, when needed, pursuing judgments and sheriff's sales; Linebarger reported 16 tax sales this year and 15 lawsuits filed. He noted certain categories of accounts are on "hold"—for example, over‑65 deferrals—and cannot be collected until the hold ends.
Board members asked follow‑up questions about the dollar value of deferred accounts (Lane cited roughly $358,000 in base deferred taxes on page 9 of the materials and said he would provide a more detailed breakout including penalties and interest). Lane emphasized that the firm is paid from collection penalties and that the district bears no up‑front cost for the representation.
Trustees thanked Linebarger for the report and asked staff to provide requested breakout numbers.
