Greenville ISD will pay up to $145,036 to Ponder Company for demolition, replacement of bleachers and installation of a vapor barrier after moisture and rot were found beneath the middle school auxiliary gym. Total project cost: $167,821; funding will come from the district's construction fund.
Greenville ISD trustees approved a construction contract with Ponder Company Inc. on Nov. 17 to replace the auxiliary gym floor at Greenville Middle School after staff and engineers identified moisture intrusion and wood rot.
Administration reported that exploratory cutting under the floor found water accumulating beneath the building. The recommended remedy includes installing a French drain along the building, repairing gutters and downspouts to direct runoff into the drainage system, clearing existing drainage paths, removing interior bleachers, demolishing and abrading the existing floor, and installing a liquid vapor barrier prior to new flooring.
The total project estimate is $167,821. Of that amount, Ponder Company's scope (demolition, bleacher removal, abrading and vapor barrier) is $145,036, which exceeds the district's $50,000 procurement threshold and required board approval. Trustees moved to approve an interlocal contract with Ponder Company not to exceed $145,036; the motion passed unanimously.
Administrators said the work will be funded from the district's construction fund—not fund balance—and estimated the project could be completed in time for regular use by January, depending on material lead times and acclimatization.
