Local Emergency Planning Committee asks residents to review chemical emergency plan

Sulphur, La. — Ronald Tower, vice chair of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, briefed the Sulphur City Council on Nov. 10 and asked residents to read and comment on the LEPC's annual chemical emergency response plan.
"The LEPC is supposed to bring the community, industry and government together around chemical emergency planning," Tower said, describing the committee’s congressionally mandated role and urging residents and council members to submit comments through the LEPC website and attend monthly meetings (third Tuesday).
Tower said the LEPC is revising this year’s plan and specifically wants public input on sirens, notification procedures and response protocols. He provided a website and a flyer to the council to facilitate public comment.
The council asked where meetings are held; Tower said meetings take place at the Calcasieu 911 facility and that the plan and submission link are available online.
