The Grosse Ile Airport Commission voted unanimously to extend a one-year lease for Commerce Park tenant Dan Kaye at $400 per month. The commission approved the motion after Airport Manager Janelle presented the recommended extension, noting Kaye no longer needs the entire former Bridge Bridal space and will occupy roughly half while the commission can pursue a second tenant for the remaining half.
The extension, described by Janelle as a one-year term with an $800 security deposit already on file, was moved by Commissioner Brian Loftus and seconded by Commissioner Chris Manns. The motion carried after an aye vote with no recorded opposition.
Commission discussion included location context for the space — immediately north of Pirates Cove and screened from nearby fields by berming — and a brief explanation that reuse of fill material from taxiway work helped ready the lot. Commissioners said they expect demand from local landscapers and other businesses for the remaining half of the space.
The action is recorded as an approved lease extension; no conditions, amendments, or follow-up tasks were detailed during the meeting. The commission did not receive public comment on the item.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the executed extension and continue outreach to prospective tenants for the other half of the unit.
